In fond memory of our member, (James) Lee Williams who died in February, 2010.

Lee was one of those people that come in your life for a while but leave a definite space in your heart. Lee endeared himself to us in that he was always such a delight to be with, always volunteered to man our exhibits and helped with setting up our displays. He shared his doll making techniques with us, etc. We made a donation to the Cancer Society in his memory. He is being so missed!

(One of his dolls, Amelia, is "flying" over our dolls in the pictures of our Charlotte Quilt Show pictures.)

About Our Club:
The Flights of Fantasy Doll Club is a cloth doll club. The ability level of our members range from beginning doll makers to advanced doll makers and designers. Our purpose is to further the enjoyment and appreciation of cloth dolls as well as enhance our skills in making them. We publish a monthly electronic newsletter. Our dues are $20 for members and $10 for associates.

We draw our regular members from the greater Charlotte and surrounding areas of Concord, Kings Mtn., Stanley, Gastonia, Matthews, Rock Hill (SC), Pineville, Troutman, Shelby, Cherryville, Statesville, Rutherfordton, and FL. Although some of our associate members live too far away to attend regularly (we have associate members from GA, and KY), local associate members are invited to attend our doll classes, visit our meetings up to three a year, display their dolls with ours in exhibits and attend our Christmas Party. We have 25 plus members and associates.

Each year we invite a nationally known doll artist/teacher to conduct a two-day doll class for us. In past years we have hosted Gabe Cyr, Patti Culea, Barbara Willis (twice), Christine Shively, Arley Berryhill, Barbara Schoenoff and Marcella Welch.

We are very fortunate to have many very talented members who share their knowledge of doll making with us at every meeting. Some past demonstrations include armatures, hand making, face painting, doll jewelry, felting, using different hair materials, etc. Guest speakers are also invited during the year.

Every year we choose one or two service projects. Our previous projects have included donating dolls and stuffed animals and toiletry items for the Women's Shelters in Charlotte, Gastonia, and Shelby; warm clothing and toiletry items to clients at a local mental health out-patient center; and a monetary donation to a youth mental health project to buy bus tokens for their clients.
